For International Wheelchair Day I chose to update a comic that I made when I got my iBOT PMD from Mobius Mobility almost 3 years ago.
I’ve been fortunate to have 4 wheelchairs in the 8 years that I’ve been injured. I started out in a Permobil F5 standing power chair and man, this thing was a tank. It got me all over the place and was my independence for 5 years. I still use it as my standing frame. Then I got in my TiLite Aero T and learned quickly how much a rigid manual wheelchair could really open up my world. Then, my wife and I built our house and I reached out to The Independence Fund and they provided me with an Action Trackchair and I really got to test some limits. I get some great use out of this beast each winter when I plow my driveway and I am forever grateful for the generosity. When I hit my 5 year mark, the VA covered an iBOT PMD. This chair has become my daily chair and has gotten me everywhere that my heart desires.
All of my wheelchairs serve specific functions and I am beyond grateful for the independence that they provide this paralyzed body. I have the luxury of freedom because of these tools and because of the companies that are constantly creating and improving them.
